UP FAIR 2016

When I was younger, during my High school days, we used to attend the UP Fair event. There was a time when we attended the event on a daily basis, even though we had school in the afternoon. I was studying in Caloocan and the event was 1 hour away from my school. After school, my friends and I would gather together to attend the event. Even at my age of 27, I still want to go – not to join the moshpit (because I’m old hahaha) but just to listen to some old school music. This year 2016, as usual, the line up is really great and here is the list of bands playing at UP fair 2016.

NASA completes long mission to land Curiosity Rover on Mars

Congratulations to NASA’s Curiosity for successfully landing on  Mars!

I was told today that Curiosity will land on Mars. I’m so excited, and watching it with my family.

Curiosity landed on August 6,2012 01:31 EDT, or 01:31 GMT+8

I can feel the success of NASA and I hope that those objectives can help us and all of mankind.

So excited now, hope to see first ever humans that will land on Mars. It should be me!!! Just kidding!

Anyway, gratz again NASA!

The Holy Week (Mahal na Araw) and “Alay Lakad” Pilgrims in the Philippines! – Part 1

The Holy Week (Mahal na Araw) and “Alay Lakad” Pilgrims Day!

Holy Week, also known as “Mahal na Araw“, “Semana Santa” and “Cuaresma“, is an annual religious festival in the Philippines. During this holiday, most TV Stations air religious shows, and many of the radio some stations close down.

Since it’s a public Holiday in the Philippines, which means there is no work except for private companies, people take this time as an advantage to go and visit their family, relatives or friends in their provinces. As for me, sometimes I questioned this holiday to myself, “Holy Week, why is it holy? when everyone wants to go on vacation or swimming”. I truly understand these desires by people, but I really hope that they still know what we are celebrating during this event – “Mahal na Araw”.

When I was young, I thought holy week was a week of vacation to visit my relatives in Pampanga. But then later, I realized it was about the Passion of Christ until the day he resurrected.

Lenten Season Schedule

Palm Sunday “Linggo ng Palaspas”

Palm Sunday marks the start of Holy Week, even though the date keeps changing every year. It is the time to reminisce about when Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem. Filipinos are celebrating this by carrying decorative Palm Fronds.

After they celebrate mass, the “Palaspas” are normally hung on doors or windows. As for me, I put mine on our Door 🙂 My mom told me that Palaspas wards off the evil spirits. Some people make fun of it, like “how about warding off bad humans?” XD

Holy Monday – Wednesday (“Spy Wednesday”)
These days are the preparation and/or processions for the passion of Christ with daily Masses in the Churches. They also call this “Spy Wednesday” because it is also the time where Judas betrayed Jesus Christ for money.

One of the most popular places to witness a procession of the Passion of Christ is in the province of Pampanga.

Maundy (Washing of the Feet) Thursday “Huwebes Santo”
Commerates the Maundy or Washing of the Feet and the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the Apostles.

It is also known as the day of “Visita Iglesia” or “the Church Visit”, where Filipinos visit either one, seven or fourteen churches in total. Normally people visit seven churches to meditate in the way of the cross.

Some people don’t visit different churches, instead they join the Pilgrims “Alay-Lakad” where a church that they are visiting has 14 Stations of the Cross.

My first time to join the Pilgrims was when I was 13 years old, we started to walk in Caloocan, Monumento. The pilgrimage ended at Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto Shrine, in Bulacan.

The estimated time to go from Caloocan Monumento to Grotto Shrine is about 5-8 hours, depending on how many stop overs you have. My friends and I were able to arrive at the Grotto Church after about 6 hours with 2 stop overs. I wished I had a camera that time to show how many people are helping all over. While walking on the street, so many people offered free water, some even gave us bread. Back during that time the water was safe to drink compared to today, where I rarely see people accept the free water on the streets.

It’s very safe to walk but I still do not recommended people to bring important gadgets. You can’t predict what will happen. Once you reach the Church, you need to wait until someone leaves their spot. Normally, there is no place to sit down, as there are people everywhere. People stay and sleep until the sun rises the next day.

Happy Independence Day America

Days run so fast. If there are only magical spells that let me write all of the things I want to say, then it would be easier to update my blog.

I would like to greet all Americans out there with a very Happy Happy Fourth of July.

Before I slept last night, I was able to watch Eagle Eye. It was a nice film and I must say that I watched it at the right time. I don’t even know what the movie is all about, and then I realized it was a movie about Terrorism against United States. And some innocent people had been involved-activated to do what the mysterious girl on the phone asked for and tried to survive just to protect their love ones and the people of the United States as well.

Here’s the Trailer of the Movie, it was release last 2008.

Plot Outline: Eagle Eye is a race-against-time thriller starring Shia LaBeouf, Michelle Monaghan, Rosario Dawson, Anthony Mackie and Billy Bob Thornton. Jerry Shaw (LaBeouf) and Rachel Holloman (Monaghan) are two strangers thrown together by a mysterious phone call from a woman they have never met. Threatening their lives and family, she pushes Jerry and Rachel into a series of increasingly dangerous situations using the technology of everyday life to track and control their every move. As the situation escalates, these two ordinary people become the countrys most wanted fugitives, who must work together to discover what is really happening and more importantly, why. If everyone thinks that the 4th of July is only celebrated in real, it’s not. GameSamba, which is a game publisher of Realms Online (http://realmsonline.gamesamba.com/) celebrates their Dawn of Freedom 4th of July event.

Cyberzone’s Women of Cosplay 2011

It’s been very busy these last couple of days and I am still preparing my costume for Toycon 2011. Last Saturday, my team-mates in The Philippines’ X-MEN Cosplay Team assigned Anna and I to attend the Cyberzone’s Women of Cosplay 2011.

SM Cyberzone's Woman of Cosplay 2011

Cyberzone gave our team 5 slots to represent our group, but unfortunately, only Anna a.k.a. Storm and I are available. There’s 2 schedules for our team last Saturday, first the Toycon Presscon at Eurotel Function Room, Pedro Gil, Manila and 2nd the Women of Cosplay 2011.

I woke up around 6:00am in the morning and left around 7:00am. I arrived at the mall around 9:45am. I went to the Comfort Room to go pee pee and re-touch my makeup because I am perspiring. There’s a long walk from LRT2-Santolan Station to SM Marikina. A very long foot bridge is connected from the LRT Train to that mall, around 5-10 minutes’ walk depending on how fast you can go.

When I came back, they are already rehearsing; I took a couple of shots of the stage while heading towards them. The practice didn’t last long and I wasn’t able to do the rehearsal >.< Then they just briefed Anna and I to help me out. I was so nervous, I honestly felt like I didn’t deserve to be part of it, for me, there are so many Woman Cosplayers out there in PH who are well-known compared to me. I have Cosplayed only few characters.

I told one of the staff members that I am nervous and then I asked him why us (X-Men). He said, “To make a difference in the Cosplay Industry. Because, as we all know most PH Women Cosplayers portray Japanese-anime characters and since you guys are Cosplaying Superheroes, it makes you different than the others”. Anna and I were so touched, and we realized that he was right. 🙂

The Event started at 3:00pm and since the practice was over, I just hung-out and walked around the Mall while Anna went to Divisoria to buy a wig. I went to buy soap, extra socks, tissue and water. Then, when I came back there’s a free lunch, oh and btw, they also gave us a free breakfast.

The other female Cosplayers and I started to get dressed around 2:00pm. After putting my make up on, I took pictures of the Female Cosplayers with me.

I am so nervous but it was fun! The Event started and I am afraid to forget my Catwalk as Anna and I are the first people to walk. But everything goes well and the highlight of the Event is the catwalk of Ms. Alodia Gosiengfiao who is very successful in the Cosplay Industry and the first female Celebrity known because of her Cosplaying in the Philippines.

Next Appearance: June 19, 2011 – ToyCon Day 2 with The Philippines’ X-Men Group

The Philippines X-Men Cosplay Team June 4, 2011 X-Men: First Class “X-Force” @ Robinson Manila

I as Domino, Cable, Pyro, Spyke and Gambit was assigned in Robinson Manila last day (June 4, 2011). Call time is 1:00pm and I arrived around 1:20pm and started to prepare because the appearances will start at 2:00 and last until 6:00pm.

I’m in a bit of a hurry to put my make up on but I stay calm and relaxed or else while putting on the white make up, I will have perspiration and get sweaty. My hands are kind of shaking, I wasn’t able to eat my lunch and only drank coffee when I left my home. My sister-in-law fixes my hair a bit before I leave too. She gave me half a piece of corn while I’m on my way to Robinsons Manila. Haha! Yeah! My breakfast and lunch is that – Corn 🙂

When I’m good to go, I wait for the 4 of them to go outside the Men’s CR and to bring our belongings to a safe area, where no robbers are allowed 🙂

I don’t know what to do yet, it’s different compared to June 1st. We stayed at the back of ticketing booth where there is an X-Men Poster and free face painting for people of all ages that’s going to watch X-Men: First Class.

We also take a solo shot for each of us.

Domino and Cable

Action shots with Spyke

My Epic shot with Cable. BTW, Cable is Domino’s Partner in X-Force.

More information about Domino here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domino_%28comics%29 and here: http://marvel.com/universe/Domino_%28Neena_Thurman%29

So then, some kids arrived and asked to have pictures taken with us and it continuously happened, before they have their face painted, they asked first to have pictures with us or sometimes adults also asked to have our pictures taken with them.

After an hour, there was a guy who came and assisted us to go around the Mall. We went to the First Floor and walked to every side of the mall up to the 4th Floor. Some people who passed by asked us to take some pictures with their kids. Then, when we came back, we took a break and ate our food. They brought us KFC with some kind of Chicken Fillet. Our break was around 4:15pm until right before 5:00pm.

I am so hungry and I feel like a monster while I am eating.  Then, after that, there are still people who are asking to have pictures even those people who are not watching X-Men. It’s free and it’s our pleasure to have them taken our pictures.

Before we finish, we ask the guy from the mobile to take a photo of us for a group shot. We copied the poster!

From Left to Right: Spyke, Domino, Cable, Pyro and Gambit.

I really had a great time yesterday with my team mates even though we are only few.  All of the Philippines X-Men Team will be seen at the upcoming TOYCON 2011, June 19, 2011 @ SM Megamall

See you all there!

The Philippines X-Men Robinson’s Mall Tour: June 1, 2011 Advance Screening X-Men: First Class

Credit to Robinsons Movieworld

Recently, my group mates and I in the Philippines X-Men Cosplay Team, had been contacted by Robinsons to amuse the moviegoers who were about to watch the X-Men: First Class movie. Our team leader agreed with Robinsons, so then our group was divided up and sent to each Mall each day. I voluntary came last June 1st for the advance screening with my 2 siblings and sister-in-law.

Robinsons gave us lots of free passes and even more passes to other members of Phil. X-Men, but sadly the passes were only valid for that day and can’t be used after that. So, one of our leaders gave me 3 passes for my siblings and sister-in-law.

The X-Men Advance Screening Passes:

I asked my brother Myles to take photos of us while we are in our costumes. The line is pretty long, as people started to line up around 7:00pm and we are standing at the back of the “Cars”. The X-Men posters are inside, after the Ticket Section, so we don’t have any background to utilize.

The Moviegoers line for advance screening.

Here are the sample shots taken last June 1st.
